Airworthiness for Gliders
The Combined Airworthiness Organisation, shortly named CAO, is an EASA approved organisation for the continuing airworthiness of aircrafts.
In addition to maintenance activities a CAO is performing airworthiness reviews with issuing an airworthiness review certificate (ARC) and/ or is managing the continuing airworthiness of aircrafts. In the case of M&D it means the management of sailplanes and powered sailplanes including TMG.

- Yearly airworthiness reviews
- Management of the continuing airworthiness of your aircraft
- Development and approval of an Aircraft Maintenance Program (AMP) for your aircraft
- Transfer of your aircraft to the German register
Many aviation colleagues and clubs know M&D Flugzeugbau as an EASA approved production organisation, maintenance organisation, design organisation and CAMO. Since more than 20 years we have experience in the maintenance of sailplanes and powered sailplanes in the construction of wood, mixed, fibre composite and metal. In addition to general maintenance, we carry out repairs, implement your modification requests including approval, carry out partial or complete painting and check the electronic equipment including transponders of your aircraft.
In our CAO you have the choice whether you want to present your aircraft for an annual airworthiness or only every three years within our “controlled environment”. In the case of the annual review, you as the owner are completely responsible for the continuing airworthiness of your aircraft. This includes for example compliance with AD’s, monitoring of operating hours, timely execution of maintenance tasks and maintaining the “maintenance history file”.
In the case your aircraft is in the “controlled environment” of our CAO, these tasks are performed by our CAO and we have the complete responsibility. All you have to do is to inform us at regular intervals about the operating hours of your aircraft and performed pilot-owner maintenance. In return, we will inform you about what will be due soon, like 100h or yearly inspections, inspections of the engine, AD’s, C.G. weighing, the replacement of the seat belts or similar tasks.
We have calculated the costs: The “controlled environment”, where we take over the responsibility for the continuing airworthiness of your aircraft and where you only have to present your aircraft every 3 years for the physical review as part of the airworthiness review, is even more cost-effective than the complete annual airworthiness review.
